Typical applications

  • Aircraft and aerospace hydraulic and fuel tubing
  • Bicycle, motorsport and marine tube frames
  • Offshore and subsea control lines and umbilicals
  • High-pressure lightweight piping systems

Welding, forming and machining

Welding
Weldable with ERTi-9 filler under full argon shielding. The alloy is normally used in tube form, where orbital GTAW gives the most consistent joints.
Heat treatment
Anneal at 700 - 785 °C and cool in air, or stress relieve at 480 - 595 °C without losing the cold-worked strength.
Hot and cold forming
Hot work in the range stated by the mill for this grade, then re-solution or re-age before final machining so that the delivered condition matches the certificate.
Machining
Machine with sharp carbide or high-speed steel tooling, positive rake, constant feed and ample coolant. Never dwell - the surface work-hardens quickly.

Titanium Grade 9 (Ti-3Al-2.5V) frequently asked questions

What is the chemical composition of Titanium Grade 9 (Ti-3Al-2.5V)?
Titanium Grade 9 (Ti-3Al-2.5V) is supplied to the following composition limits: Titanium (Ti) Balance; Aluminium (Al) 2.50 - 3.50; Vanadium (V) 2.00 - 3.00; Iron (Fe) 0.25 max; Oxygen (O) 0.15 max; Carbon (C) 0.08 max; Nitrogen (N) 0.03 max; Hydrogen (H) 0.015 max. Single figures are maximum limits unless shown as a range; the heat analysis on your EN 10204 3.1 certificate is the governing record.
Which specifications cover Titanium Grade 9 (Ti-3Al-2.5V) flanges and pipe fittings?
Forged flanges and forging stock: ASTM B381 Grade F-9 · ASME SB-381. Butt weld elbows, tees, reducers and caps: ASTM B363 WPT-9 · ASME SB-363. Hangbo supplies to these specifications with dimensional compliance to ASME B16.5, B16.47 or B16.9 as applicable.
What is Titanium Grade 9 (Ti-3Al-2.5V) normally used for?
The main uses are aircraft and aerospace hydraulic and fuel tubing; bicycle, motorsport and marine tube frames; offshore and subsea control lines and umbilicals. Buyers pick it where the alternative would be a lower alloyed grade that would not survive the service.
Can Hangbo supply Titanium Grade 9 (Ti-3Al-2.5V) elbows, tees and flanges from stock or to order?
Yes. We forge and machine flanges to ASME B16.5 and B16.47, form butt weld elbows and tees to ASME B16.9, and supply matching seamless pipe, all from the same heat where required so that the whole spool carries one set of mechanical properties. Lead times depend on size and quantity - send the drawing or the line list for a firm quote.
