Inconel 600 (N06600): composition, properties, fittings and flanges
Inconel 600 (UNS N06600, W. Nr. 2.4816, GH3600) is a nickel-chromium-iron alloy with 72 % nickel minimum, 14-17 % chromium and 6-10 % iron. It combines resistance to organic and inorganic compounds, immunity to chloride-ion stress corrosion cracking, and good performance in caustic alkalis, chlorine and fluorine-bearing…

Product forms available
Hangbo supplies this grade in the following forms. Sizes outside the listed range can often be produced to order.
- Seamless heat exchanger and condenser tube
- Forged flanges and rings to ASME B16.5 and B16.47
- Butt weld elbows, tees, reducers and caps to ASME B16.9
- Heat treatment baskets, trays and fixtures
Typical applications
- Furnace muffles, retorts, radiant tubes, trays and heat treatment fixtures
- Nuclear pressurised water reactor steam generator tubing and core internals
- Chemical reactors, evaporators and vessels handling fatty acids and alkalis
- Pulp and paper mill digesters and bleach plant equipment
- Electronic components, heater sheaths, spark electrodes and battery cases
- Chlorination and fluorination equipment handling dry halogens
Welding, forming and machining
- Welding
- Weld readily by GTAW, GMAW, SMAW and SAW using ERNiCrFe-3 filler with clean joint preparation. No preheat is needed; keep interpass temperature low and avoid sulphur, lead and phosphorus contamination, which cause hot cracking.
- Hot forming
- Hot work between 1200 °C and 870 °C; heavy reductions should be completed above 980 °C and followed by annealing at 925-1010 °C for fine grain size.
- Machining
- The high nickel content makes the alloy gummy and prone to work hardening. Use sharp positive rake carbide or HSS tools, generous chip breakers, low cutting speeds and continuous feeds.
- Annealing
- Stress relieve at 870-980 °C, or full anneal at 925-1010 °C followed by rapid cooling to avoid carbide precipitation in the 540-760 °C range.
