Nickel 201 (N02201): composition, properties, fittings and flanges
Nickel 201 (N02201, W. Nr. 2.4068) is Low-carbon commercially pure wrought nickel. Nickel 201 is specified at Copper 0.25 max, Titanium -. Nickel 201 is Nickel 200 with carbon held to 0.02 %, which stops graphitisation and lets the alloy be used in caustic and halogen service up to about 600 °C. Minimum properties for the…

Product forms available
Hangbo supplies this grade in the following forms. Sizes outside the listed range can often be produced to order.
- Forged flanges blanks and finished flanges to ASME B16.5, B16.47 Series A/B and B16.36
- Butt weld elbows, tees, reducers, caps and stub ends to ASME B16.9 and MSS SP-43
- Seamless pipe and tube to the applicable ASTM / ASME pipe specification
- Forged rings, discs and hubs machined to your drawing
Typical applications
- Caustic evaporator and molten salt piping above 315 °C
- Fluorine production and halogen handling equipment
- Electronic components and battery hardware
- Chemical process vessels needing pure nickel at temperature
Welding, forming and machining
- Welding
- Weld with ERNi-1 filler. Low carbon prevents intergranular graphite in the heat affected zone, so Nickel 201 welds reliably for high-temperature caustic service.
- Heat treatment
- Anneal at 705 - 925 °C and cool as required for the specified temper.
- Hot and cold forming
- Hot work in the range stated by the mill for this grade, then re-solution or re-age before final machining so that the delivered condition matches the certificate.
- Machining
- Machine with sharp carbide or high-speed steel tooling, positive rake, constant feed and ample coolant. Never dwell - the surface work-hardens quickly.
