Haynes 214 (N07214): composition, properties, fittings and flanges
Haynes 214 (N07214) is Alumina-forming nickel-chromium-aluminium alloy. Haynes 214 is specified at Nickel Balance, Chromium 15.0 - 17.5, Aluminium 4.00 - 5.00. Haynes 214 forms a protective alumina rather than a chromia scale, which is why it survives to 1260 °C in air and resists carburisation, chlorination and molten salt…

Mechanical properties
| Tensile strength, min (annealed) | 725 MPa / 105 ksi |
|---|---|
| 0.2 % yield strength, min | 340 MPa / 49 ksi |
| Elongation in 2 in, min | 25 % |

Product forms available
Hangbo supplies this grade in the following forms. Sizes outside the listed range can often be produced to order.
- Forged flanges blanks and finished flanges to ASME B16.5, B16.47 Series A/B and B16.36
- Butt weld elbows, tees, reducers, caps and stub ends to ASME B16.9 and MSS SP-43
- Seamless pipe and tube to the applicable ASTM / ASME pipe specification
- Forged rings, discs and hubs machined to your drawing
Typical applications
- Honeycomb seals, burner cans and furnace internals above 1100 °C
- Rotary kiln and calciner components in carburising atmospheres
- Chlorination and molten salt handling equipment
- Mesh belts, trays and fixtures for sintering and brazing
Welding, forming and machining
- Welding
- Weld with matching filler. Alumina-forming alloys lose their advantage if the weld metal is a chromia former, so filler selection matters more than usual.
- Heat treatment
- Solution anneal at 1120 - 1175 °C and rapid cool; a stabilising treatment at 925 °C improves scale performance in thermal cycling.
- Hot and cold forming
- Hot work in the range stated by the mill for this grade, then re-solution or re-age before final machining so that the delivered condition matches the certificate.
- Machining
- Machine with sharp carbide or high-speed steel tooling, positive rake, constant feed and ample coolant. Never dwell - the surface work-hardens quickly.
